p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Architectural Grids 2

Sunday night I finished editing the second in a 3 part set from downtown ATL...all focusing on architectural grids. This one required a lot more work, when I shot it, I didn't realize that there were a bunch of louvers at the top, and windows that were open about 2/3 of the way up.

So, image 2 in a 3 part series.

Thanks for looking, any comments or crits are more than welcomed.

This has a completely different feel to it. The dramatic sky is what makes the difference, IMO. If you had this sky in the first shot, that would be interesting to see, I think.

Hi Kenny,

I agree with you, the sky is much more dramatic in this one...shot just about an hour later as the sky was clearing a little...we have had nothing but gray cloudy skies for 2+ weeks here...its getting old!

Thanks Ray, glad it works for you. I won't be able to go re-shoot this one...we had special access to the roof top patio of a historic building...can't get that again.

This is a good one Travis.
As the others commented, the sky makes huge difference.

Thanks. Yep, skies make a lot of difference...if only we could order perfect ones for our needs when we go out shooting!

Not just the sky, but the framing as well.
It is inspired the way you have the straight edge of the building right against the frame edge.
The other one has an interesting angle but perhaps more sky than necessary.

Glad you like it. Thanks for taking the time.

Alignment of the patterns in the building really makes a big difference I have learned...The framing was tricky, since it was hand held, standing on the 17th floor outside, I was not as stable as I would have liked, so I left some room around it for cropping later to get it how I wanted to shoot it...that allowed me to rotate and crop to get it the way I wanted it with that side lined up with the edge of the image.

Vertigo is crawling all over me.
But at least it's from looking up- and not down .
I really like this, Travis. In all ways.
My only (tiny) nit stems from the fact that I'm a contrast freak- so I won't even mention what the nit is about. .

I agree that having the left edge of the building aligned vertically makes a very interesting composition. Well done.

Charlie, I am learning from your posts that you are a contrast junkie...in my past, I would have amped that up...but I am really trying to learn to work in the grays, and subtle tones...but I would like to hear your nit...without hearing it, I will think that it was something I missed, and should have considered.
.
Glad you like it, despite its lack of big contrast.

Thanks Joe. Glad it works for you, I know it is a little unusual.
