p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Date and time on front of prints. How?

A friend needs to display prints with the date and time he took them on the front of the prints. I have Lightroom 4 and PS CS6. Is there a way I can do this for him?

Thanks,
Jeff

Create a watermark in LR or a text layer in PS.

I was hoping there was something that could take the exif data and put the date and time on the front automatically.

If you friend has not striped his images files EXIF meta date. With CS6 all he would need is a Photoshop script to retrieve the exif data he want added to the image and add it as a text layer. Do search for a Photoshop exif script.

Thanks Mr. Mouse. I'll give that a try.

Sure wish LR would let you do this on export.

If it was me, I'd combine Lightroom, ImageMagick, Exiftool, command line scripting and Jeff Friedl's 'Run Any Command' LR export plugin to create a during-export script to extract the data and then 'place' it on the image.

But I'm more comfy w/ that than extensive PS actions etc.

Lr will do it, but not over the image, just underneath the image. You would use Print to FIle.

Brian,

Under the photo is fine. In fact even better. I just want it on the front of the print. I see in the print module that I can add photo info and choose date, etc. Is that what you are talking about? I haven't found "print to file", unless you are saying to print it to a computer file like like "Microsoft Document Writer" instead of on a printer.

And adding photo info in the print module gives me choices, including dates, but not date and time. Am I missing something?

The LR 2/Mogrify plug-in for Lightroom will do exactly what you're looking for: http://www.photographers-toolbox.com/products/lrmogrify2.php?sec=quickguide

You simply choose to Export the image from Lightroom, and in the Export Dialog box you configure LR 2/Mogrify to print any or all of the EXIF Metadata in any position you want. See the example in the "Text Annotations" section of the QuickGuide link above. Note that you can use tokens that will extract the specific metadata and add it to the photo.

You can write a Photoshop script to do it. If you don't know how to write it, just google it up and there should be many out there. If you use PhotoMechanic, you can export to jpg by adding a watermark with {date} variable, which automatically inserting the date based on exif on each image.
