Jim,

Looking at the imagery of this shot captures so many (if not all) of the mental "check boxes" that make it a great photo...kudos to you!

Very different - you've captured a very dynamic feel here.

Jim, you said you took a few different shots at different shutter speeds. What were the speeds?

I love the movement of the water, it's what makes the photo so great.. it feels just a hair too frozen though. An ever so slight motion blur would really set this apart. Do you have any of the other examples? I'm really curious how they came out.

There are some good lessons for photographers that you wrote about in your blog also as you described the excitement of chasing this shot.

JIm-

This is really an excellent image. Lots of depth, color, mood, action, etc. Very nicely done. I also like the pano image you were working on when you went for this image. Very nice work. Thanks.

Great image, Jim! Even more so that you said this is a single image. It's really amazing how much DR you can pull from a D800 file.

Gorgeous view, you made it there right in time! This sort of light does not last.
Now, I see - for you, gold is yellow, for me - orange (perhaps because in Russia gold usually comes with some copper, so it has reddish hue.)

Amazing dynamic range that it captures, hopefully the next Canon will be similar or even better.

Jim,

Good scramble to get into position. I like the water treatment as well. i think it was nice that you didn't give it the long exposure blur. It gives it a more raw energy feel for the whole scene.

Excellent photo.

Very cool shot Jim! I absolutely love the backlit water, and how you were able to maintain every bit of whitewater. This is a tricky exposure, but you've done a bang-up job with it. Well captured!

Thanks Ben, I am glad you liked it. The exposure was a little tricky, and time was running out, so I didn't have the time to play around with it.

Dang Jim, this is pretty sweet with the light rays and the golden-lit landscape. Looks great too with the frozen water currents. I think I much prefer this than a smoothed-out, less dynamic water with a longer shutter speed. Did I tell you I've never been to GNP? This area looks beautiful.

Hey Tuan,

Thanks so much, that is one beautiful location, it's hard not to get a cool a shot there. I am thinking you need to make a road trip to Glacier! I went there after hitting the Grand Teton first and then a day in Yellowstone. It would make for a nice little trip...

Very nice blue and gold contrast in the water, and the extra layers of golden lit ground really tie the photo together nicely. You're making me regret teaching summer school...

Ha ha... Tim you need to play hookey from school!

Thanks so much, I am glad you liked the shot.

You drove all the way up just for that!!

Thanks Craig,

Yeah... it was a lot further from the Tetons than I had remembered, but it was worth it. And for as cool as this shot is, wait till you see the nuclear color I got for sunset while shooting Wild Goose Island the evening before this shot...

When I first looked at this Jim, I thought the water was coming towards the camera, then I realised that can't be right as it is going down hill the other way, so despite the stunning light and landscape that fact alone makes this image a standout in my mind.

Cheers Ray
