I was lucky enough to win the photo contest at the local art gallery and I have a gift card to pro photo supply in Portland burning a hole in my pocket.
I am primarily a landscape photographer but also do some sports (mostly of my sons team) and the occasional wildlife. I do some back packing so light weight is an added bonus. I do print fairly large occasionally so IQ is important to me.
I currently have a D800E and my lenses are. A brand new samyang 14mm 2.8, Nikon 18-35 G, Nikon 50 mm 1.8, Nikon 85 1.8 G, a Tokina 100mm 2.8 Macro, and a 70-300 nikon vr.
I feel pretty happy with all of my lenses with the possible exception of the 70-300 which doesn't seem to fair as well with the D800e as it did with the D7000.
I could certainly chip in some money to go over $500 but of course the less the better.
The lens that first came to mind for me was the Nikon 28 1.8. At around $700 it would be the right amount. I am pretty happy with the 18-35 zoom but I have been taking a lot of star photos and the 1.8 aperture would be a big improvement for that. Other thoughts I had are saving up a bit more and thinking about the new 70-200 f4 or maybe the 300 mm f4.
Any other suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks Brian
