Hi, trying to get a price for a D700 with 189K clicks. Wish there was a kelly blue book for cameras... friend of mine is selling me one.

Best place to check is the buy/sell forum and look at prices that D700's are going for there. Just a cursory glance at a few reveals an 8+ going for $1300, a 9 going for $1350, and a mint going for $1600 with some extras thrown in.

189 clicks you can assume the camera is well worn, I personally wouldn't buy it but would assume it would be worth $950-$1050. Especially with the D600 available as a refurb for $1600 ish.

I'd rather spend on a D600 Re-furb. Which is what I just did. $1585.00 with free shipping from Kenmore camera on Ebay. No complaints what so ever.

But to answer your question, with that many clicks- I wouldn't pay much. No more than $900 tops. Great camera but if you want a FX body you can't go wrong with the D600 re-furb. Dynamic range is nuts.

With 189k clicks, I'd steer clear. There are plenty of 'hardly used' ones available, and the price won't be all that different. All parts will be worn, and one major repair bill would eat up any savings pretty quick

Also turns out to be an import (grey market) body

I don't have an issue with grey market stuff, it's the same product, and in Australia the repair centres will repair anything if you pay for the repair (repair cost won't be covered by warranty). But with 189k I'm guessing you're out of the warranty period anyway

Might be a different story in the US?

SUPPOSEDLY Nikon USA won't TOUCH a grey market item, whether it's in warranty or out......BUT, i'm sure that any authorized repair center will fix it when you're paying....i mean, they ARE the EXACT same product...the only difference is a different digit at the beginning of the serial number....

yeah, agree with everyone, that many clicks, grey market, etc., only if it was the only one left on earth and was cheap..sure there's many better ones to choose from out there

I've sold two of them this year. One had roughly 130K on it. I got $1,200.00 for that one. The other had just shy of 13K w/ grip near mint and I got an even $2K for that one.

I wouldn't pay over $1k for a D700 that's had 189,000 clicks. Expect to spend $250+ for a shutter replacement in that cam's near future. I paid $1400 for a like-new condition D700 recently. It's a great camera to be sure, but that's a lot of mileage!

Plus the potential cost for a mirror box replacement as well.

Just found out it has a 5 year accidental/defect warranty. Fully transferable to new owner.

I see them going for $1500 - 1600 on ebay but most are under 10k shutter actuations and look like new. I see a lot of 100k+ shutter counts still going for $1200 but cosmetically looking very clean, to give you an idea of price. I am a little bit of an expert since i look almost everyday for a backup d700 at the right price. lol
I wish i would have purchased from Onecall when the were blowing out refurbished ones for 1699.

There is something to it for the amount of use. But remember a shutter can go out anytime. Shortly after opening the box or double of what is on the one you are talking about.
