I find photography to be a fascinating blend of technology, creativity and art. Some of the recent discussions on this forum have involved these topics and made we wonder about the background of others who have been attracted to this field.

Thanks for your input

I am technology trained, though not formally.
While I use the tools, a DSLR, PS, etc, I find in recent years a desire to return to the fundamentals of the photography arts. Trying to create an image on film makes me invest a lot more of myself in the process. I still use technology to bring it to life, but more in subtly now.

I have a degree in Applied Physics from CalTech. I think that pushes me slightly in the "technology" direction.

I have what is almost an embarrassing amount of formal education in the arts, and nothing at all on the technical end. I started in a studio art program (BFA) at an art school and then went on to do a BA, MA, and PhD in art history at a university. I never once took a technical course of any sort, but I married an engineer, so that's got to count for something, right?!

PhD in applied math and engineering and I make a living as a bridge engineer. I love playing with new technology (computers and electronics) almost as much as I love making photographs.

Phrasikeia,
I don't think education in any field should be embarrassing. Sorry to hear about your marital issues. My wife (BFA, MA) has had a similar affliction and has spent a long time trying to overcome my limitations (Ph.D., chemistry).

Henry, sounds like you are wasting your nighttime hours. Have you considered writing novels?

Technology NON art background. Degree in Construction Technology and in Computer Sciences.

Unlike Henry, I only do brain surgery in my spare time....more a hobby than a profession.

How about both...I got my Bachelors and Masters in Architecture, and that is what I do every day...but I went to art school, and got into art school for my fine art portfolio.

I don't know much about architecture. Isn't it a blend of technology and art?

Well, it was very kind of you to take pity on one of those flighty right-brained types by marrying her.

I majored in digging utility pole holes by hand, splicing cables together and running wires to your house...I minored in cooking, driving a taxi, roofing, pot and dish washing and portering.
