I did visit the site. 5 weeks ago. I'm on there. Obviously you only read parts of it.
Yeah, I guess I didn't read these parts. Bad me.
On the other hand, I can never recommend this one for those really need fast AF response. It is nothing close to 'quick'.
The auto focus is dead slow with EFS lens - 2 sec or more
And yes the focus is slow, but I can live with it.
it's not the fastest focusing camera around
Same comments as others regarding the focus being slow but can live with that,
the focusing is downright awful... not just slow for me, but completely useless in actually locking focus in low light or close-up/macro shooting (in any light). It seems to want to focus on what is behind what I want to focus on in low light or strong back light. Macro mode with one focus point is pretty hard to gauge with the actual size of the focus point on a small subject. It just seems to not want to lock focus.
The AF is pretty good in normal light. Still comparatively slow to the S95 and E-PL1, but it locks on just fine.
if you can lock focus in time to catch something. I mainly wanted the EOS M because it's small, I can use my other lenses, etc. But it's just too painfully slow.
So just to recap: My personal advice is if you want to take photos of anything that moves, get a different camera.
I really want to love the EOS M but that kind of slowness (and noise during focus) is unacceptable to me. And, I don't do a lot of street work, mostly inanimate stuff. But, slow is slow.
The focus is on the slower side of things, but not unbearably so - for me, at lea
The AF sucks so bad that it hurts.
This AF issue will prevent me from seriously considering this camera. If they solved that I could see myself buying one.
You want sucky AF, try a macro lens with it. It can go from MFD to infinity and back three times before it focuses on the subject... both with a Canon 100mm non-IS and a 60mm EF-S. It does however focus pretty quickly with my 135mm/2. The AF could be worse, but there is a lot of room for improvement. I'd go so far as to say Canon should have never released this camera with the AF in this condition.
Yes, it is slow but I think we must be reminded of who this is for. The target audience is supposed to be from those that want something similar to a point and shoot, but gives image quality of an SLR. It's likely those that are attracted by the size of an Olympus Pen (although my Olympus EP-3 focuses much faster than the EOS-M) but priced below it and has image quality that surpass it.
The NEX 5 is much faster for focusing for stills, and tracking. The one I had never hunted for focus, even in low light, even with the 18-55 kit lens.
After playing with this for a week the slow AF is REALLY annoying me
I've found it quite slow no matter what AF setting I use - touch focus, non touch focus, touch focus and shoot. Face detect, no face detect. It's just really slow to focus. An iPhone is quicker
I bought mine for Christmas and my only issue thus far has been the slow and inaccurate focus. The pictures look amazing but I missed a few shots due to the camera’s inability to find and focus on the subject.
Shooting a moving target like dogs or children is next to useless with this camera's AF. Using the camera on AI servo is also useless most images are OOF when tracking a target.
Way too many of my shots with this camera are OOF or taken too late due to the slow AF - missing shots is becoming very frustrating.
The AF system is indeed not the best for action shots.
One thing that bothers me is the slow AF, but not really a big deal coz, I am more into Manual focus..
I am frustrated that the autofocus is super slow.
AF is slow, but a lot faster than my analogue day.
I only had the camera 2 days before I upgraded the firmware so didn't really have an opportunity to put it through it's paces but as reported the auto focus was slow but not any slower than a point and shoot that I use. ...Show more →
