What I particularly love about the 1st one is the entire frame is FULL of interest. To me that is an illusive goal rarely met my any photographer's work I see. This one is just flat out exceptional. Having driven through that area many times I can certainly say you've captured the essence of it well indeed.

Great job Aaron. I love the first photo. All day at work I was thinking, "I hope someone is taking photos of this summer storm."

My first attempt at daytime lightning I stacked filters until I got an 8 second exposure at iso 50 and f/22. I sat there for about an hour just smiling at all the neat strikes I was capturing. I peaked at the back of the camera early on and couldn't really see the strikes, but figured they would stand out once they were downloaded. I was using the 1Ds2 with a crappy lcd screen. Well, needless to say I had stacked so many filters that I didn't get any exposure on the lightning strikes. Lesson learned.

Thank you all very much for the kind words and feedback!

traveler: Thank you! I get out quite a bit and shoot in my home turf but this was the best experience I've had yet in the Palouse.

tlbradford: I would have been frustrated had I not captured any lightning. Overall I had about 6 frames that I captured lightning. I didn't want to close down to f/22 but my shutter speed gradually went from about 5 sec to a half second even while the lightning persisted.

Dan (dswiger): Thank you Dan. The complementing colors were very nice. I actually dialed in a custom WB to 4500 K since the red channel was consistently clipping. I knew I could take care of it later (and moved it back up to around 5000 K) but it was definitely color overload for me!

Scott K: Thanks! I've had similar thoughts about your photos too

mdraege: I was blown away by all the color especially how long it lasted. The peak in the distance is Steptoe Butte. That had to be a little frightening for anyone up there as the storm rolled in!

Wow crazy color. I can't wait to go through that area later this summer. That's quite the magic hour light on the storm!

What a spectacular display of colors and textures. Both are wonderful, but #2 has an especially surreal sky and level of simplicity about it that I find particularly appealing. Nice job!

Congrats on both images, just a treat for my eyes!

I am a fan of #1, I like the foreground and the overall layering which adds depth.

#2 is also awesome, what a treat nature gives at times with drama in the skies and you were there and did a fine job capturing it

When I look at the area where the lightning is striking it at first appears to be turbulent waters, a bit of trickery to my old eyes............another treat!
