So sexy! I don't know how long I can hold off buying one.
RX1's IQ is really high. More and more people become more tolerant to its handling. Me included.

Sorry, what's the difference between this and the original, only the missing AA filter?

Still no built in EVF = no sale for me.
Sure I could live without an EVF, but having one in my NEX-7 has spoilt me, I doubt I'll buy another cam without one.

Having the original RX1 and knowing how sharp it is on fabrics in portraits, I would worry about getting a lot of moire with the new version without the AA. Curious also to see how much difference in IQ since AA seems weak. The RX1 files can handle a lot of sharpening before looking too crispy.

I'm curious to see how well this model goes. I personally don't think the removal of AA filter will attract that much more new customers.

I'm in! I love my RX1.

I shoot regularly with my D800e and a D700, and the D800e really does make a difference, enough for me to throw down some more on an RX1-R.

Pre-ordered on Adorama. Let's see how fast it comes =)

Erm, removing an AA filter is considered a plus?

The manufacturer's motivation for removing the AA filter is to save money, not to improve image quality. As piexl densities get higher, we are at a point where they can start "getting away with it". personally, I think 24 MP is still too low for AA less general purpose photography. 24 MP in an APS-C sensor is less problematic.

That being said, I own the D800E and not the D800, but that is because for what I use it for, I always can or want to stop down until diffraction gives enough low-pass filtering.

cool, curious to see if this will have any impact on color shift/corner performance.

also curious if this will effect resale prices of RX-1s.

I'm actually a little disappointed by this, since I've been eyeing an RXsomething, but I'm mainly holding out for near-DSLR class AF, followed by a more distant desire for next-gen FF resolutions (36MP). If I get an RX, it'll be a replacement, for paid PJ work, for my 5D2-- AF is critical. I could go the rest of my life with only 35mm equiv.

But the RX1R seems to me as an attempt to keep sales fresh without actually moving towards better AF and higher true resolutions. It'll only extend the product update cycle, I fear, without providing much in the way of an actual update (and perhaps increasing margins by keeping prices high while lowering costs).

That is the key. We need compare corner sharpness and color. (I know, I know, RX1B is pretty good already.)That is the whole reason Leica M doesn't have AA. It is not they choose to but have to.

With the same price, I'd pick this one over regular one any time. It play more role in head//heart than IQ. I don't have issue with 18M AAless M9. Especially I am shooting for fun. Though I won't switch if I have already had one.

IMO the only interesting thing about this release is that the RX1 price goes down.

My guess is that it won't have much impact on color shift, but it'll be a little sharper in the corners. Even M cameras still have noticeable amounts of color shift, despite not having an AA.

My favorite thing about the RX1R is that I'm not tempted to upgrade.
