p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Cherry Blossoms

This image was taken in April 2013, in the Daikakuji Temple Complex, Arashiyama in Kyoto, Japan. The Cherry Blossom trees were in peak bloom and the sun was just starting to turn golden. I am glad that I got it because the next couple of days it rained hard, and then all the Cherry Blossoms were GONE!!

I hope you enjoy. Criticism and comments are always welcome. Thank you for your time.

Beautiful and at the same time very peaceful image. I like how you used the cherry blossom trees to frame the scene.

AMaji- An excellent image of a spectacularly peaceful scene.
I understand the importance of "lightness," yet I wonder if darkening the whole image a bit, and increasing the contrast a bit, might bring out the blossoms better. As is, they tend to disappear into the rather blah sky.

Agree with Charlie on upping the contrast a bit. Love the image though, nicely composed and the light is nice and soft.

As suggested by Charlie, here is a version with the contrast upped. Please let me know which one you like.

Thank you again for your comments.

I like the framing too but not sure if I like the tree trunk showing on the left?..........I think you may have a white balance issue that is not letting the nice pinks come through here and would agree the first image seems a bit too bright. Perhaps the slight darkening of only highlights is in order here and maybe if the sky shows blue adding a little saturation to the blue if you can..........watch the colors on the distant blossoms to show accurate color if you tinker with WB.

A very tricky shot to render but I like what you have here

Hey Maji,

Nice work here. Both versions actually work for me.

The original works for me. There is an ethereal quality, a lightness that I associate with the essence of cherry-blossom viewing

You captured a lovely scene Maji. I prefer your first version as the second seems too dark. Maybe somewhere between the two images would be better.

I prefer the ephemeral mood of the first picture.
IMHO, it's one of those pictures that is hard to show online, because airy blossoms lose their transparent quality when sharpened for the web, although I bet the print will be gorgeous.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I may have over done the second image, but as Sasha says, the Cherry Blossoms are almost translucent, so when you look at them, you feel that you can see the sky thru the petals. I will play with the curves to see what else I can get out of it.

Thanks again for looking and commenting.
