The lack of a D400 doesn't mean that those waiting for it can't use a D7100 or a D300 to get great shots. In fact, they are at this right moment. However, as a person becomes better at what he/she does (myself not included), they then need a more specialized tool to handle the task more efficiently. Preaching that it's about the photographer not the tool doesn't apply in this case, because those waiting for the D400 are already good photographers. The tool will just make their job easier.
Exactly so. For some reason, that concept seems to get lost frequently.

I understand that some are anticipating a new DX Pro camera such as the D400 since it's an unfalsifiable argument, however, I really don't understand those who argue with such certainty that Nikon "will definitely not" announce a D400.
I don't understand it either, although there seems to be a ton of folks that love their current camera and can't figure out why it isn't the perfect tool for everyone else.
Personally, on the FX side, I like my d800 and love my d3s. On the DX side, I like my d7k and love my d300. But, that love story is getting old and the d300 is looking rather long in the tooth. The d300 sensor is a little too noisy, especially compared to modern sensors. I'm not interested in a d7100, because of the aforementioned limitations. I'd like to replace my d300 with a new body, that has the same capability, but with a modern sensor. Seems pretty simple to me.
