p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Goodbye, DX

This evening marks a turning point in my photo gear. I had made the decision a few months ago to convert to all FX gear. As of tonight, all my DX equipment (with the exception of the 10.5 fisheye) has been sold and is sitting in boxes ready to ship out tomorrow.

Goodbye, D60. Goodbye, Nikkor 18-105. Goodbye, D7000. Goodbye, Nikkor 10-24. You were good to me. .

Now, to order another D600!

Congrats! I know I was very excited when my 24-70 finally arrived, completing my transition from DX - FX.

Congrats, FX is a beautiful field of view! For myself, I like the bennefits of both worlds. FX for landscape and just about everything else. DX for nature and wildlife.

I actually miss the DX Format.

There are times in my like of work that one DX Frame Body would be helpful.

I would have liked to have one for the Super Moon This weekend.

for many years I fought against the DX concept. but in owning a D7k I found a whole lot of respect for the format with the right glass.

Actually, a 'supermoon' isn't that much closer.

The moon, on average, is the same angular size as a quarter 6', 4-1/4" from your eye.

At it's closest, the moon's angular size is the same as a quarter 6', 4-1/8" from your eye.

I haven't looked back at DX since I sold everything to finance the D600 bundle deal in winter. The D600 is so much better than the D7000 I replaced, I am thinking of getting a second one. For the first time in the digital era, I feel I won't need to upgrade the camera body within the next 2 or so years to get something more capable. The D600 produces files that just blow me away, and it works so well with all my old manual focus pre-digital era glass, I am really glad I made the move to FX. Even for long lenses, I'd rather add a real TC than use a DX body that is completely handicapped on the wide end, requiring custom DX-only glass to go wider than 21mm FX equivalent. I shoot my 20mm and 14mm lenses far more often than my 600mm.

Yawn. Coming from the D7000, you won't notice the slower AF of the D600.

Don't listen to Kent, Ken. FX causes him dyspepsia... You can count on him raining on any parade that has an FX camera as its centerpiece. Enjoy your D600. I've not shot with a Nikon DX camera but friends who moved from the D7000 to the D600 have been very happy with the brighter viewfinder. I'm very happy that all the old MF lenses I own FEEL at home on an FX camera since DX is a creation of the digital world. It was not part of the world of film.

I have both a D4 and D7000. Both deliver the results I want. I guess I adapt a little easier to either/or then most. I traveled the long and winding road of film too since the mid '70s.

these cameras have AF? Who would have guessed. I may actually have a lens or two that can take advantage of that.
