Rear tilt screen is very nice. Odd rear control wheel, though if one is holding this camera at waist level, it almost might make sense. The big question is the sensor? Supposedly non X-Trans so my bet is the ubiquitous 16MP version found in so many cameras today. If it's without AA filter, this camera might very well outperform every other Fuji at base ISO. This could be interesting.

My understanding is that this camera contains the same sensor a the X-E1and the X-Pro1. This is supposed to be the entry level camera in this series.

Camera looks very nice. Bad part? Fragmentation in the X line...that is, the new 16-50 and 27mm do NOT have aperture rings. I'm assuming this means that this function will be moved to the rear wheel or something on the X-E1 and X-Pro 1, but that is flippin' annoying. The best thing about the X cameras is the classic and simple control scheme, and now, if I want these lenses, I will have a different control scheme for these lenses than for all the other lenses. I really hope other future X lenses don't have missing aperture rings. I guess their thought is that the 'average' shooter that the camera is targeted to will be confused by an aperture ring, but for cryin' out loud...give people some credit...it's not that hard to figure out the 'A' setting on the shutter speed and aperture dials.

From what I have read the 16-50 zoom is an entry level lens. My assumption is that it will break in at a lower price level then its big brother. Maybe, lower cost means you can't always get what you want ( to borrow a phrase). The 27mm is a pancake style, very small. How do you incorporate an aperture ring that doesn't make the lens bigger as well as one that your fingers can find and utilize?

The same way they did it on the 18mm? The same way they did it on the X100 and X100s? The same way they did it in the MOCKUP of the 27mm?

Honestly, it scares me as an X-system owner. I hope this isn't the mark of ALL Fuji X lenses going to no aperture ring...if the 23 and 56 come without them, I honestly will probably bolt the system. It removes one of the things that makes these cameras so enjoyable to use.

...but if you try some time, you just might find, you get what you need.

I'm waiting for the next body with a VF, probably either X-Pro 2 or X-E2, to complement my X-Pro 1 and X100.

Xe1 is already $700 used, I wonder how much this one will be.

Perhaps something changed with the sensor as I distinctly recall reading that the cheaper, entry level Fuji would have a non X-Trans sensor.

I mean, yeah... but plenty of DSLRs that can mount legacy lenses deal with this, too. Nikon and Pentax bodies, for example, can mount film-era AF lenses with aperture rings, but the aperture can also be controlled on the body. They can also mount digital-era lenses without rings. People don't seem to have much problem going back and forth between the two kinds of lenses/aperture control schemes.

I also think the 27mm aperture ring decision was made for space reasons. The 27mm lens looks to me (from photos) to be quite a bit smaller than the 18mm, and a mockup is just that—a mockup. You can't always rely on them for what a working unit will look like.

Could very well be Fuji is differentiating their budget line from their "elite" line by removing the aperture rings from the lower models and lowering their price.

I mean, 27mm/2.8 is okay but isn't horribly exciting, and would you really find yourself stopping this lens down that often anyway?

Street shooters will probably set the aperture, prefocus and be done with it, anyone indoors will have it wide open, etc. And as already mentioned, if this is targeted as a minimum-profile set-it-and-forget-it (mostly) pancake, then removing that aperture ring saves a lot of space and probably price.

Now if the 23 and 56 come without aperture rings, we have a problem Houston. I don't see Fuji doing that though.

In other news - Tilt LCD in XE2 please.

We probably won't see a new sensor until the 24mpx apsc Sony is upgraded from the Nikon implementation and widely available.

Nice camera though and unlike the entry level nex cameras I'm glad it has a real control wheel.

Also very happy to see it seems to be real metal and the EC dial is a normal dial!

So this may pull classic X100 prices much lower... With 27mm pan cake lens, except little speed what are (most people) going to loose (& high speed flash sync)...

I love my X100, but dont want it become un-sell-able so early...

Ah.. missed that part...so with X100, you will be getting E/O-VF, fast lens (& reasonably sharp for me, though not the best) and high speed flash functionality... and this new camera will give you lenses, tilt screen and better sensor (more MPix)...

I may hold to X100 along with newly acquired NEX-5N (with kit lens) for $300)...

Well the first images look like engineering renderings, so I would guess the aperture ring is still there and we are looking at the opposite side, it will be smooth and on the opposite side of the ring will be the aperture marks or it might be blank but still movable, otherwise how are you going to set aperture? Personally the 27mm does not interest me at all, I wish they would release the 23mm..... and some decent upgrades to the firmware... oh well.... wait and see what we get on Tuesday.

The ring isn't there, on either the 27 or the new 16-50 kit. Count on it.

(Note that the front bezel on the 16-50 says XC, not XF.)

I think the rumors were that there is supposed to an entry level X Series camera (which is probably the X-M1) and that there is supposed to be another non X-trans sensor camera that is supposed to come out as well that might be even cheaper.

That makes sense. I thought this was the cheaper one being referred to.
