You shouldn't double post. You posted the same thread in the "People" forum. Plus, this isn't a Nikon issue.

Added on edit: I re-read the rules and there is no mention of double-posting so...my bad. Still, I think it is frowned upon.

If this was film, then the film wasn't advanced while those three shots were taken.

But I'm looking at it more closely and it's clear that it was done via copying layers from the original image and changing opacity of each layer.

Perhaps there was a camera defect. Our D80 started doing things like that after about 20K frames.
