2 dragon shots. Shooting handheld in the brush chasing one when I heard a rustle in the brush just off my left shoulder.

Having hunted all of my life, I knew better than to move quickly which paid off. I had to s l o w l y take off the tube to get a shot, but how often does something cool sneak up on you?

I dropped the tube, took a couple of shots and scared it off so I could untangle and put everything back together.

Great set. This time of year I always see snakes while shooting dragonflies.

Wonderful captures.
Not often but I have had large dragonflies unexpectedly land on me- unfortunately not easy to shoot them then

Nice set! The Black Racer ~ Coluber constrictor priapus, very common in the south feeds often on frogs and insects such as dragonflies so it's no wonder that you ran into him. Nicely done!

Thanks for the comments! Definitely a Racer Pepperman, it was about 3- 3 1/2 ft. long. It either got too high and fell or struck at something and missed because it made noise - they are usually very quiet. I see them, water snakes, moccasins and copper heads regularly, just not at that range. It was definitely a cool opportunity, a foot closer and I could have kept the tube on.

And Brian, had it landed on me the story would have started with a change of pants.
