Why would they name any camera 3D? Unless it takes 3D pictures, it sounds like a PR nightmare!

Yeah, Amazon would get a lot of returns and angry reviews. Of course Canon could bundle it with a cheap double lens and app to split the frame for the trendy 3D look.

Because 2D is flat and old, and the number 'four' is avoided in Japanese except when it comes to Playstations.

And the '3D cliche' isn't completely worn out yet. Hell, it might even record 3D video, it's not very hard

"Yon" is fine (as is "nana" for 7), but "shi" (and "shichi") are avoided due to the phonetic similarity to the word for "death."

Using Arabic nemerals, though, isn't as much as a problem (consider the 7D, for example), and they'll just use an appropriate reading when saying it aloud.
