If you feel it wouldn't hijack the thread, did you need to explain before the shoot that having someone else to distract or play w/ the kid would make for the parents to relax more? If so, I'd love to hear how you communicated this; this is one example of something that the photographer knows is a potential problem, but that the clients might not understand til they're halfway into the shoot...
Thanks! They knew from the beginning the toddler would be an issue so she came only for the first 15 minutes, focused just on her, and then she was whisked away home. Grandma was happily in charge of the toddler, and bride's sister was there as well. In fact, on that second shot, she was walking away from parents to grandma, then looked over at her aunt. For that moment, she had her independence, and she was just in her own little moment.
I've shot quite a few toddlers, and I don't think I've run into parents yet who didn't understand the toddlers get focused on early, and then they're off. Maybe I've just been lucky?
