p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Colorado e-session

I flew out last week to shoot their e-session and engagement party. My first time shooting with a horse. Some of the e-session pics below. It was hot as hell and the bugs were bitting but we had a great time.

Comments and suggestions always welcomed.

great set! Your lighting looks very natural, yet enhanced. I'm curious which of these had off camera flash or reflectors?

Thank you. I used an off camera flash in a soft box for the following:

4,5,6,7,8,9,19,21,24,25,26. I used a bare flash for #1.

Great set with a lot of variety! Personally I think it would have been stronger without the OCF. It's my personal preference, but I think OCF on a day that beautiful takes away from the ambience.

That is totally understandable. Using off camera flash is a choice I made due to the lighting conditions. I disagree that many of the shots would be stronger without it but again, it's a personal choice. Here are a couple of shots where the light didn't fire due to me being too quick on the trigger. The first image would not have worked without additional light. The second image works without it but I like the version with some light on the couple.

Really nice set, Jim. #3 stands out to me as well. Was this in Ft. Collins?

Good eyes! Yes we shot at a ranch in Ft. Collins and then at the school. The next day we shot a few more pics at her dad's house in Littleton.

They look like a fun couple. These are all good, but #11 stands out because the bride-to-be is so engaged with her horse. #2 would be my second pick. The young lady has rather droopy eyes, so it might help to shoot her from higher angles. Horses, by the way, usually look better in photo's when their ears are pointed forward.

In case you didn't notice, you might want to take care of the skin blemish in #22.

Really nice set here, Jim, great job! Too many faves to mention, I liked a lot of the varying processing styles you used here.

Thanks! But I only used one processing style. I did vary the black levels a bit from pic to pic, depending on the contrast so maybe that's what you're seeing.

I guess it was really just 10 that stood out from a pp standpoint as being different. 24 and 25 was different in your shooting. Loved 'em, man.

What you are seeing in #10 that makes it different is that I was shooting thru the grass which diffused the image.
