One of the things I love about this forum (and others here on FM) is that not only do I get to see wonderful photographs and gain information as well as inspiration, but I often get introduced to photographers I've never heard of.
As a woman, when I look at this post, and the Liedtke work that deinfaces linked to, I have tremendous empathy for these women, and how tough it must have been for all but the thickest-skinned of them to handle growing up in a society that places its highest values on physical perfection and flawlessness. Women can act tough, but inside, self-doubt and self loathing can really take a toll. I can't say whether deinfaces' model is using her tats as a deflection mechanism. I think I understand what you are going for and yours is a B&W project. I will say that the color version is more soft and flattering - only by the standards of today's mainstream views on beauty or attractiveness. I have yet to finish my first cup of coffee, so I am not sure this even makes sense!
I should add that I find it very interesting and a bit refreshing that the men commenting here like the B&W image.
