p.1 #1 · Upgrade question

Hey

Currently I use Canon 6D and 70-200 L2.8 mk II, 28-70 USM L2.8, EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, Sigma 50 1.4, Sigma 30 1.4, Tamron 18-270
I want to keep 70-200 as it is an awesome lens.

I am very happy with 6D but I am very intrigued by focus ability of mkIII

Now I have a choice to sell most others and upgrade to 5D mk III or keep 6D and upgrade to Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II

I am an amateur shooting lot of low light parish events and some portraits.

What would you recommend me to get first as I won't have money for both.

Thank you

Nice to have choices!

If you are happy with the 6D, I'd say stay with it.

If there are specific features you find important on the 5D3 that the 6D lacks, then buy the 5D3. You might expect your other lenses to behave a touch better on the 5D3, per reports.

The 24-70L II will work great on either body, and makes a nice pairing with the 70-200/2.8L II IS.

Keep camera, fool around with fast prime lenses for low light.

I'd sell the 28-135, 28-70, and the tamron. Buy a 24-70L v1, 85 1.8 for portraits, and a 1.4x tc. I don't think you will notice much of a difference jumping from the 6D to the 5DIII.

My take:

Sell the AF-S lens, the 28-70 and the 28-135

This should give you some cash. Definitely keep the 50 and the 70-200.

Then get the Sigma 35 1.4 + 85 1.4 and enjoy the 6D's centre AF point

When I wanted to upgrade my 5D2, it was either the 6D or 5D3. I read as much as possible. It seems the 6D wasn't much of an upgrade, but the 5D3 is a whole new world. All the focus points work great! (been trying to un-learn myself from focus/recompose) and it brought a lot of 'new' life in my fast lenses. The 24-70 II focuses faster than my brain can process with the 5D3. It's insane. I'm very happy, and have zero regrets.

I seriously question the concept of trading in the 28-70 on a 24-70. There is always loss when trading/selling/buying, and I very much doubt that you will see significant IQ improvements in the 24-70 v1 over the 28-70. If the focal length range 24 - 28 makes a huge difference to you, then go ahead, but you won't see a lot of IQ difference between the lenses.

In general, good glass holds its value far, far better than camera bodies. The 6D is a fine body; if you don't have specific complaints that the 5DIII would solve (and if the large hunk of cash it would take to make that trade is an issue for you), I certainly would keep the 6D.

Figure out what problem you're trying to solve. If it's low light, the you might think about adding a fast 85 or 135 to your kit (or to learn how to take and process images at higher ISO settings).

Thanks a lot Mark.

I like 6d a lot. It takes great shots even at higher ISO. I can eliminate most noise in post production.
I've played with 24-70 v2 and I really like that lens. I am tending towards this option at the present time.
If I sell some of those lenses I should get $1300.00
I would need to come up with another $700.00 for 24-70 mkII
On the other hand if I sell 6d I need to keep 28-70 and sell other lenses. With this option I need $700.00. as well to buy 5d mkIII.
Thanks for help
