Has Tamron fixed the exposure issues their 70-300 VC lens had on the D90?

I'm looking at both the Nikkor 70-300 VR and the Tamron 70-300 VC to use with my D90. After too much research I'm leaning toward the Tamron because it has a $100 rebate that makes the price difference between it and the Nikkor even greater.

BUT - it seems the D90, in particular, suffered from exposure issues with this Tamron lens.

I haven't found anything in the way of feedback from folks who have paired up recent copies of Tamron's 70-300 with a D90 to know if they fixed these exposure issues.

Can anyone comment?

Thanks!

I've used the Tamron extensively with the D90 and D300 with no problems over the past few years. What problems?

If there is a problem, it is a lot more likely the fix is on the D90 end of things, but I haven't heard about any issues w/ that lens either. Link/description?

A quick Google search will turn up plenty of results about this issue. It seems there were substantial exposure (usually under exposure) issues with the Tamron 70-300mm VC and Nikon bodies, particularly when using matrix metering. It was another one of those some lenses have it and some don't kind of things but it was common enough that Tamron knew about it, acknowledged it and had a fix for it if you sent the lens to them. At least this is what folks said in the forums.

Most of the stuff I read about this issue was from 2010 - 2011, especially the D90 connection. I think the most recent posts I read were from mid-2012.

So I'm curious if the issue was fixed and no longer exists in current versions of this lens or if I still have a chance of getting a bad one, especially since I have a D90 . . .

I'd contact Tamron. Honestly, that would be an easy enough reason to choose the Nikon over the Tamron for me...

For what its worth.. I have the Tammy 70-300mm VC and it has been flawless on my D200, D7000, and D7100. Performed better than the Nikon version for me personally.. along with a few of my buddies who took it for a spin...

I know, part of me thinks the same way. But I'd have to spend about $230 more to get the Nikkor unless I get a used or refurbished one. Adorama has Nikon refurbished for $359, essentially the same as the Tamron new after $100 rebate. A new Tamron with 6 year warranty for the same price makes for a hard decision . . .

The Tamron did/does? have an exposure issue. Mine under exposed by about 1.5 stops consistently. Sent it in for warranty service and it came back perfect. Took about 10 days including shipping.

It's a great lens for the money. Stopped down a bit is very sharp, but not bad wide open. The consensus seems to be that it's sharper than the nikon on the long end especially. I don't regret getting mine.

When did you buy yours? On what body were you using it?

Thanks!

A couple of years ago, so the issue may have been resolved with the newer production runs. Bodies are D200 and D7000.
