p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Zach + Ansley (First post, first wedding)

Well as the title states this was my first time shooting a wedding. It was a simple court room wedding for a friend who did not have any other photographer alternatives. I reluctantly accepted the offer and proceeded to spend weeks studying the work on here. Thank you to everyone who posts and shares on here, it was very helpful.

Curious to see what any feedback is like - I see lots of room where I could have done things better but overall for the price and my experience level I am happy with the outcome. Thanks for looking!

I think you did a great job for your first wedding. Pretty clean and simple--in a good way. I'm sure your friends will be pleased.

great first try.

Not sure what is with the anamorphic crops, and you faltered a bit in low light, but overall it is a very impressive first wedding.

They should be overjoyed.

Great first try- I wish my first was half that good

Good job.

Most people would be thrilled to have this as their first wedding, particularly since you didn't have the benefit of being mentored or working as a 2nd shooter. The lighting and angles in #2 gives an interesting 3D effect.

Awesome first try! I wish our first had turned out that well!

Also, is it just me or is that the coolest looking courthouse ever!

Good job for your first wedding! Adjust your WB for the reception shots like someone mentioned. You did really well. They will be happy with these for sure!

Woah, I'm not used to getting many responses on my work so much appreciated everyone!

Thank you! My goal was not to go too crazy and get some photos that would last.

Thank you for your realistic critique. Looking back through the crops when I got home I was wondering what I was thinking as well, I seem to really struggle between where it's okay to cut limbs and create intimacy, and where it just looks wrong.

Also, for the low light I just wasn't feeling "on" at the reception - I thought it would be my strong point as I shoot a lot of low light and bounced light but It has been a long time for me and there were some issues going on which brought the mood down. I think a big issue was handling mustard yellow walls and overall small event. I couldn't bounce the light anywhere and get decent color and I couldn't seem to get the white balance right. I ended up happier shooting iso3200 f1.8 on a 5d2. I thought those looked okay. Curious as to what you may recommend?

Thank you! Please see right above on the reception. I was really struggling between trying to bounce (or not) and balancing the 2-3 different color temperature lights in the room with the mustard yellow walls. This was the best I could find in post.

Thank you. Being a second shooter would be a fun opportunity, but - yes - not something I've ever done. I liked #2 as well for the journalism aspect (which I would like to be my style, and is my hobby style I think).

Thank you. It really was a surprisingly cool location. Especially the big windows outside where we were waiting (photo 5).

Thank you, they are happy as far as I know! I commented on the WB above a couple times... I really struggled with that room.

Thank you. It's not my first time shooting people or picking up a camera so that helps in my favor. Certainly have a lot of room to grow though before I'm happy with any of my work.

An overall question on the WB for the reception, is there a good book to read on color? Post processing color? Understanding color? I really think so much of photography comes down to this and my understanding of it is limited to purely trial and error.
