Those are awesome! How does a shot make it onto Explore?
thank. Explore is a mystery. It is based not on how "good "an image I but how "interesting" it is. There is some math behind it that some folk have tried to crack, but the engine behind it I a patented robot picking things based on number of likes, comments and some other magic.
The base rules to follow that seem to work "most of the time"
- post only one or two image per day
- do NOT add the image to any Flickr group during the first 24 hours, although I have had image in 1 or 2 groups and that still worked
- images are best uploaded after 7pm (not sure about other time zones) to maximize their visibility before the bot looks at the numbers once per day
- tag it and geo-tag it - increases views
- do not watermark, do not use frames
- you can only get one image per 9 days into Flickr, or at least that I the observed pattern. I have had two in on the same day once, don't ask how that worked. One was removed when the other showed, so maybe that was some sort of glitch, but Explore update more than once per day, "bonking" a subset of images to let another round get exposure.
and most importantly, have lot of followers that like/comment on your images. It isn't the volume, but the ratio, I think. 10% likes compared to views is a good ratio, below is less likely to make it.
the most complete explanation I've seen can be found here

After you read that you will understand why you can find images in Explore that are anything but "interesting" from a photographer's point of view, such as your daily dose of Lego figures. There's a community on Flickr that I very active in sharing/commenting on these Lego figure, and they are picked up a highly active/interesting image because of that. Then there are the Lofoten images, probably everyone who ever did a photo vacation there hangs out in the same landscape sub group and comments on each other's stuff. You'll find owls by the dozens almost every day. Great shots, but there's a limit to how many white owls flying across snow I can admire Car and race cars especially are a rare thing in Explore. It is much more likely to see a train or a semi truck taken with an iPhone.
Explore is about exposure, not about "reward for a great image"
Also - do you know what happened to our thead about NFAS shooting non-Nikon MF glass? Can't find it any longer and I have some Rokinon shot to post...
