At the last race, I rented/tested the Tamron 70-200mm VR G2 - nice lens if stationary subject are your thing, or even high shutter speed moving targets. Colors and sharpness are absolutely top notch, has the same micro contrast you get from a top of the line Nikon, and the backgrounds at f/2.8 are perfect, all at $1400. But it has a problem in my use case - I need VR that can be used for panning at slow shutter speeds, and even though it claims to have a mode explicitly made for panning, it utterly failed that test - I have no idea what it is supposed to do, but I got better pans with it when all VR was turned off. Really a bummer, because apart from that, the lens produces some great images. Too expensive if I can't use it on the track for what these things are mostly used.
