Some tennis shots from a tournament at my local club. The good old D700 with the 70-200 2.8 VR II at work.

Around dusk, and the last couple under artificial lighting as well. I shoot single-shot only, no bursts. I like the AF on my D700 better than on the Df. Some cropping applied and some tweeking in Apple's Aperture.

David, the shot of that horse from Iceland is outstanding!

Jose... Thanks for the info regarding slide duplicating and that link. I have a ton of old slides I need to work on soon. I have an old Coolscan V - ED, which I believe would work with Vuescan, but your results with the ES-1 are impressive. I presently have the D7000 but will be getting a D7200 soon. Do you believe that the lack of an aa filter makes the D7200 a better camera for duplicating?

ha, there's the problem. I don't have any such lens The scanners you used in the past are no match to the 4000 ED or 5000 ED series scanners.

Maybe my next MF lens will be a macro lens.

For slide reproduction, try the 55m f3,5 Ai. Some people almost give you money to take that one off their hands, but I own my copy of that lens for over 20 years and it never gave poor results. Add an ES-1 for $25 new, and a PK-13 for 1:1 on full frame (the ES-1 has a telescopic tube, which might or might not give you 1:1 on DX as well with the PK-13, and allows you to include some of the film base for taking your WB

Kevin, due to the irregular nature of film grain, I do not think moire will be a roblem at all.

Been horsing around with the AF 80-200 f2,8D ED on my D3 these past 2 weeks. Increasing shutter count on my D3 by about 2000 clicks in 3 shooting days, and spent too many hours processing that mess.

(apologies for the big fat annoying logo, but we recently experienced some image theft in this branch)

Is that 25 euros, not dollars? I looked at B&H and Adorama here and found it for $59.95 new.

You are welcome Bill.
Yes, I suppose the D7200 pixel density is also of great value for "scanning" slides, but I suggest you use ISO 100 for best results, since already at ISO 200-400 I see some digital noise over the slide grain.
Additionally I suggest you inspect carefully each slide with a loupe before scan work, not just to see if it is worth the time lost to the digitise it, but also to see if there are some dirt or fungus that you must clean before the slide duplication.

I remember it was one of these offers, where I kept sending offers for around $25 and at one point got one for around that price. Took a while though. (My Paypal account says I paid US$ 28,60)

With a D7000 (or a D7200) and the Micro DX 40mm 2.8 a ES-1 is all that is needed to copy slides. Easy. Love live view for this.

this is why I bought the 400/2.8 - 25 meters from the subject with the D500, no teleconverter, just slight crop. Bam. Unreal detail. You can determine the species of the dead bugs on his helmet. The car was moving at least 80mph in that corner, probably closer to 100mph, and hitting a curb, buncy bumpy making abrupt direction changes. Lock on and almost every frame is in focus. Pick the one where the helmet is in perfect focus - depth of field is rather limited...

f/3.5 1/2500s ISO 100

The boyscout

another one that would not be possible with the (much more affordable) 200-500mm VR - subject isolation at distance that is just to die for - all that clutter in the distance eliminated.

f/3.5 1/2000s ISO 100 on D810

a rare 70-300mm VR shot from me - here with D500. AF on that lens is somewhat sluggish, even on a D500, but faced with $$$$ to get a decent f/2.8 VR lens, I am making do with it. The kind of shots I take with it are generally not that reliant on fast focus anyway, nor do I shoot portraits with it where the faster aperture would give me smooth backgrounds. For now, this lens just gives me th wider view and good sharpness when I am not able to use the 180mm f/2.8

here at 140mm (x1.5 DX)

f/7.1 1/4000s ISO 400 (settings to ensure depth of field, stopped action, only one chance to get this shot)

Other from the old days with a 75-300mm AF:

Brazilian squirrel by Jose, on Flickr

Old slide from May 2001 of a Brazilian squirrel.
Taken with Nikon F90x camera + Nikkor 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF + SB28 as fill flash, hand held, Fuji Provia F 100 pushed to ISO 200.
Dupe: D610 + 32mm tube + Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 ai @f/5.6 + ES1 slide copying adapter. Some cropping. This is a "realistic" (not overdone) HDR of the slide from 3 shots (-1EV, 0EV and +1EV).

brought some MF lenses with me, but they haven't really seen any use yet this trip. I have been shooting though.

These were from the ferry from Woods Hole to Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard. I didn't spend much time out there, cause missing the last boat would mean sitting outside all night.

Rockport. I drove about 130 miles for these shots, then slept in the car overnight.
