A month ago I updated my 5d3 to the latest firmware that is supposed to fix the firmware so the AF adjust doesn't get set to -8. Well, it just happened to me for the first time shooting my brand new 24-70 II.
Anyone else have this experience since the firmware update?
Have been shooting mine for a couple weeks without this happening. I just went and confirmed with all my glass and each one is set the way I set it. Did you have this issue prior to the firmware upgrade?

Nope. That's the ironic thing - I've had this particular 5d3 since the beginning of march and never had this issue. The 24-70 is brand new as I said, and I was testing it and noticed that it was front focusing. I checked the AF adjust and saw that it was -8; I know it was +6 last weekend as I was fiddling with my 85 and tweaking it.
I checked again and the firmware is definitely 1.2.1
I bought a brand new 5d3 a couple weeks ago (firmware 1.2.1). At the same time, bought a brand new 24-70 2.8 v2. I never adjusted the MA and the body never had a different lens on it (studio work). A friend forwarded this thread to me, so I checked. Guess what..."all" lenses were set to -8 MA.
I have had the -8 bug and know it exists but just for the record did everyone know that if you MA a zoom and have different settings at each end the camera gradually changes the MA setting according to focal length?
For example if you MA'd a lens to be -7 at wideangle and 0 at tele the camera might pick -2 in the middle of the zoom range
I notice my 70-200 that was set at +2 was out of focus when viewing images. I checked microadjust and it was set at -8 for all lenses. This was supose to be fixed in the firmware. It's obvious it has not been fixed.
Mine didn't go to -8 with the firmware update (although I have had it happen before.) What it DID do was zero out the AFMA settings for the lens which was on the camera when I applied the update. (24-70 2.8L Mk2) All other lenses were not affected. The lesson seems to be to remove any lens before applying the update.
I performed all my microadjustment after the upgrade. The other day I noticed my adjustments were not showing on the exif. I checked the camera and sure enough +2 was there and enabled. I disabled microadjustment and then enabled and it began to work again with no issues thus far.
Crap! I was affected by this before the latest firmware update, I thought *I* had accidentally turned on "set all lenses" to -8.
Now I'm going to have to check it like crazy. I had discovered it at -8 and slapped my head and said "no wonder my shots are not coming out right" and changed it back to 0 and I didn't see it go back.
I applied the latest update with no lens on the camera for whatever it's worth.
