what do you think of the lighting, wasn't worried about composition. Need to get an efficient lighting setup to shoot a truckload of leather.
i realized i need a few more lights(ordered 2x YN560iii)
does any one have experience lighting leather?
p.s i do not have my pc anymore, no calibrated monitor. just an old laptop.
the above bags are 30$ each, pure leather... he's not much bothered with color accuracy... But i do understand what you are saying and will try having the laptop calibrated
+1 @ less specular lighting sheen. Your sharpening can impact the sheen also. It also looks like your specular lighting is revealing your background texture a bit too.
I'd say the specular shine is actually a plus, is used properly, to show the gloss of the bright patent leather finish. (Keep in mind, the criteria for product photography quality is somewhat different from art photography. The point is to make the product appealing while showing it honestly.)
If the manufacturer may supply the images to be used further down the retail for marketing in catalogs or for on-line sales, correct color may become more important than originally expected. Many years ago I had a friend in the high-end fashion catalog sales business and she was very picky about color accuracy, especially the printing accuracy. She relied upon the manufacturer provided images and went round and round hammering the printers to get the colors perfect for her catalogs. Accurate color in the beginning is insurance against later complaints.
