p.1 #1 · Legends of Golf and Insperity Championship

I haven't posted in a while, but I shot the Insperity Championship, (a Champions Tour Event) for the fourth year in a row for the Houston Chronicle. For the second year in a row, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino played 18 holes for the gallery, and put on a great show. The next day, Esteban Toledo, a Mexican immigrant, won his first tour event on Cinco de Mayo, and the Chronicle ran both jubes nice and big with a Cinco de Mayo flair in the headline, etc.

With the exception of the wide shot of Palmer (16-35; probably around 28mm), all the rest were shot with the new Canon 400mm 2.8 IS V2 courtesy of my good friend the Getty Golf God. It's sharper and has more contrast than the IS V1 that I own. It's also at least five pounds lighter.

It was a great time, so I thought I would post a few of my favorite snaps.

Arnold Palmer tees of on No.1.

Gary Player celebrates his birdie as Jack Nicklaus looks on.

Arnold Palmer (right) and Jack Nicklaus laugh while walking up to the No. 3 green.

Arnold Palmer tees off on No. 4.

Esteban Toledo follows his tee shot on No. 17.

Two more.

Great set of shots! Love the emotion in the last two. I'm still walking around with the non-IS V1 so can only imagine what the IS V2 would be like...I'd probably have to pick up a gym membership again since I would not be getting a workout anymore!

Thanks for sharing!

Tim, thank you, and yes I remember the first 400mm 2.8 non-IS. Heavy but sharp, but the new one just blows all its predecessors away. You would not believe how light & sharp (and expensive! Try $12,000!) it is. I loved my three days with it while my friend was snapping with the 1Dx and 500mm f4 (essentially the same focal length when you take in full frame).
