Besides rocks, water and crystal balls I love to photograph old and abandoned buildings and vehicles. Since I have explored pretty much the entire area around where I live I have not had much desire to get out and photograph them as I have photographed them many times. To get to "uncharted territory" I have to drive 4+ hours. Luckily my girlfriend's parents live in an area rife with abandonments we drove the 4+ hours to spend a several days there! While there we took 2 days to get out and explore. I was like a kid in a candy store! So many finds. I barely scraped the top of the iceberg. I can't wait to go back!

Here are some of my favs that I have processed so far!

1. Lean Into It

2. Sinking Feeling

3. Animus

4. Sheltered

5. Past Life Not Forgotten

Thanks for looking!

Super set!

#1 is fascinating.

#3 I'd like to see just a bit more brights/blues in the sky (it seems a bit too dark), but love the composition/framing.

#4 is composed beautifully.

Hey Scott,

What good finds here. I am sure it was a lot of fun to get out in new territory. The only one I don't really care for is #1. I think #2 is the best, it's so cool... like it's sinking into the ground and the open door is it's mouth and its yelling for help... #5 is my other favorite.

Good work,

Jim

Nice one Jim! Now I can't think of anything else when I look at that shot

Great shots, the first thing that came to my mind was how much you would love Oregon.

Cool shots, Scott. "Sinking Feeling" made me laugh reflexively. I think I like Animus the bast, followed closely by Sheltered. but they are all great treatments, and I like how you tailor each view to the characteristics of the subject.

Scott,
What great finds! I need to get out & explore more.

The first one looks almost like lens distortion with the lean so exaggerated
The second one has a cartoon like face.

Thank you all so much!

When photographing old buildings it helps to think of them as people with faces. If you compose as such it usually helps the composition. In the case of the barn I chose a composition that really emphasizes the "face" of the barn saying "Help, I've fallen and I cant get up!"

Thank you. Great, now I will have to move there! Oregon is already on top of my list of places to photograph for it's coastlines. I don't need abandoned places to add to that :P

Thank you Dan. The lens distortion definitely helped exaggerate the lean but it was leaning a lot. So much that I wonder how it is still standing.

Thank you Sunny! These are taken during 2 days of exploring (driving aimlessly down back roads). Every mile road was a gold mine. I would find a place, spend 20min or so shooting and then move on to another. Not a lot of time spent on studying the locations but just thinking quickly and working with what was there. There is so much more area to explore it is crazy. Cant wait to get back out there. Hoping to spend a few days there in July.

Here is a fun shot taken by my gf:

Very interesting Scott. I like!

Great finds in a melancholy way.
They all are reminders of some real person's dashed hopes and dreams...

Cool set, Scott. I like photographing old, dilapidated structures. The comp in #4 with the tree/house/moon is very nice.
