IMO the little GR is a much better camera than RX1. The latter is rather a benchmark than a camera for photographer. For 35mm I expect to see proper DOF scale or function like snap focus - and RX1 lacks both of them.

snap focus would be most welcome on the rx1. my biggest complaint about the rx1 is that i can't set focus and aperture ahead of time and just pull it out of my pocket to shoot when i see a shot. sadly 28/2.8 on aps-c won't work as a general use camera for me and i really like manual focus on the rx1 through the evf. how does the dof scale work on the gr?

The DOF scale is fantastic and very consistent with the DOF calculator's result. Great thing is you have three MY mode, each can be set with a different default snap distance and manual focus distance. So you can basically just turn it on and it will be at the distance and F stop you want. For example, my day time mode is manual focus at 5m f5.6, which is pass hyperfocal. One button press it is in AF mode with snap focus of 2m, very handy.

Ricoh gear doesn't seem to have too many price drops and a fairly slow product cycle so I wouldn't expect to see the price budget for a while.

1) its obviously selling very well, and 2) its already $300+ cheaper than Nikon's A

I would imagine demand is starting to stabilize though because as cool of little camera as it is, its still a pretty small market niche of enthusiast, and forum types, and once everyone like you and me get one, that initial demand will be filled.

Hopefully the GW3 is going to be a bit easier to find in time as I really want one, as do most GR users, which is something I think may have surprised Ricoh. They've offered tele and WA conversion lenses for lots of past models and never really seemed to catch on, but the GW3 seems especially decent, and gives a 21mm equiv APS-C mirrorless for $1000, which when you compare it to a Fuji 14mm F2.8 for the lens along, is an awesome value.

Honestly I bought the camera more because I plan to use it at 21mm rather than its native 28mm. Paired with the RX1 it should make a great 21/35 combo, and then if I just upgrade my DP2m to the 75mm DP3m I'll have my 3 lens prime trifecta

Do you realize that the GR is a 28mm FF equivalent (18.5mm lens)?

yes.

effective focal length and actual aperture are what matter to me so that's the way think. i guess it would be more correct to say 28/4 so they are both in equivalent form, but i find equivalence to be more useful a concept for focal length than aperture.

28mm actual focal length (42 equiv) would be much more attractive to me.

No but it probably needs one, I managed to scuff the screen already. Did the same to my x-pro 1, scuffed the hell out of it. Somehow my Canon lcds have survived all these years without a scratch.
