Don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but the GR is actually pretty sensitive to IR.

Just was holding up a r72 IR filter to the lens and while it requires high ISO's, it gives a pretty nice IR file with great sensitivity on foliage. Perhaps even more sensitive than the Fuji's are.

Kind of cool news, because while it means a tripod for the cleanest exposures, which will run 1 or 2 seconds, it can at least do pretty good IR landscapes. Didn't see any hotspots either.

Always nice when just taking 1 extra filter can open up some new creative options, especially in otherwise harsh midday sun.

Give it a try if you've got an IR filter laying around.

starting my Canadian Rockies with a 4x5 Camera project and I'm finding the Ricoh GR to be the perfect companion with LF and MF camera.
works great as a spot metering tool, exposure preview and takes great shots as well.

shot Lake Louise and Moraine Lake with the 4x5 but scouted Lake Agnes with the Ricoh GR first since it's a 2mile hike with 400m/1300ft elevation gain

Very nice, Tom. I work in the Willis Tower but never get up that high. Great to see this perspective. And very fine BW conversion.

Here is a quick comparison shot between the naked lens and a shot with a r72 IR filter. Just done in JPEG mode and the camera was set to add the vignette. Your going to be shooting ISO 1600 or 3200 if you want to shoot it handheld, but it works.

Kind of cool getting the darker skies, white foliage etc. Maybe can get a little gimmicky at times, but for just the cost of a 49mm IR filter, pretty fun. I mean what else are you going to shoot during harsh afternoon sun right ?

I wouldn't go spend the money on getting a camera converted to IR (though its nice shooting at normal low ISO's) because I don't do enough IR, and I likewise wouldn't want to carry an extra IR dedicated camera body around. I got a cheap Nikon D40 or something like that for a few hundred bucks off Ebay that was modded and it was cool, but it just sat at home 99% of the time.

Slipping a 49mm filter into my bag or pocket though ? Piece of cake

Just another creative option this amazing little camera can give you.

Thanks millsart for sharing your IR-experiences! It made me curious trying out IR again. Last time I shot IR was back in the 80s with IR film, but that was too quite expensive for me in the long run. In the digital age I always wonder weather it is possible to get the IR look in post-processing alone, but I haven't thought much about this question yet.
