Helena I believe had a frozen GR that had to be sent away to be fixed. Helena, if you read this, did you ever find out what caused the problem? Did they end up actually fixing the camera or replacing it?

Yes, mine often froze when I shut it off (the lens got stuck only partly retracted). After a couple of weeks it died completely, so I sent it in for repair in Germany. After three months(!) it came back with the exact same problem, so I got a brand new one from the shop which has worked flawlessly for several months now. Very happy with it.

(All the repair report said was that they had replaced the main circuit board, but I think that was only a symptom. Since it always happened when the lens retracted I suspect that there was some problem with the lens mechanism.)

Mine never froze during the 7 months I've used it.

Thanks Helena.

The single time my GR froze, it was accessing the SD card which is why I thought the card might have played a role in the freeze. Since I changed cards, no more freezes (though there have also been firmware updates which could have solved the problem as well).

When I started having problems with mine I did some googling and found a forum where there were speculations that the seemingly random freezing some people experience may have something to do with the power supply. Maybe when an unfortunate combination of actions happens (probably something rare since most people never encounter it, or only once or twice) the camera shuts down due to too little power. According to them some older Ricohs had this issue. Interesting theory, but I don't know if it's true and what happened with mine was different.

It's only about 3km to walk down to the river and has beautiful views all the way, but I rarely do it anyway because it's very steep and going back home it's all uphill...

Just got my new Ricoh GR bag, imported it from Japan. It was given out as a limited edition bag last year but because it's made specifically for the GR, it's sized great. The material used is very denim like and build quality is so-so. Already had a zipper break on me. Plus my wife also says that it makes it look like a man purse. But it's comfortable, light, and fits everything that I need.

Picture 1 is the front, with the leather flap with the GR logo.

#2 - Two small pockets under the flap.

#3 - Carry my Lee Seven5 filters in the mesh pocket. Main compartments from left to right hold - small tabletop tripod, Ricoh GR, and extra batteries.

#4 - Rear zippered compartments holds the CA-2 wired shutter release, the GH-3 adapter with the 49mm Lee adapter attached, and Seven5 filter holder. It can also hold an iPad mini with cover in the very rear.

Overall very light and I'll carry this when I want something light to walk around with.
