Why wait? Don't you have monitors, windows and colleagues?

Isn't GR producing dng ? My guess was that it should be supported even on the older version, but that is just my guess. Please let us know your findings.

I could not find the cat so the dog had to fill in for my first images with the GR.

Yes the GR produces dng files and Lightroom 4 reads them just fine. My initial take as others have said, the files look great in LR and seem to have a lot of room to work with. In these two images I only tweaked the black and white levels, added ever so little structure and vibrance and a little vignette to the one image.

I look forward to sharing more images with the GR.

Vegas shopping center.

LR5 + SilverEfex pro 2

With structure / clarity sliders way down:

And I FINALLY managed to get some moire on a GR raw file (as you know, the GR does not have a moire-blocking AA filter in front of its sensor). It took me 3147 shots to find a proper subject:

Using Fuji X-E1 mainly, I'm still struggling with the missing smoothness of the images and the colors, particularly skin color.

Try setting Saturation in LR5 to -15. Fiddle with Clarity as well and if needed with the Camera Calibration. Some experimentation should do the trick - also perhaps compare the rendering with other RAW processors.

I do agree that the colors are sometimes a bit harsh compared to DSLRs - I have no experience with (other) mirrorless cameras.

Slowly getting use to the GR. Images are fantastic and love the small size but it is dreadfully slow compared to my EM5. A touch screen would have been nice. I need to download the new firmware. Mine shipped last week with Version 1.11. Here are a couple of images from yesterday. The second image is about a 75% crop of the captured image. Incredibly sharp!

In what way do you mean "slow"?

The Ricoh GR is slow to focus compared to the EM5. I it is also slower to change settings than my EM5 but the firmware update will likely help this as well as me getting more familar with the GR. Image quality at base ISO is better than EM5. I have not had the opprotunity to shoot at high ISO yet. I think the colors the GR produces are lovely. I don't feel the need to do very much post processing on the GR images. I should say, I am a RAW only snob so I can not speak to the JPGs from the GR.

owyhee: shooting in RAW only will leave you with low resolution previews (unless that has been addressed in an upgrade). For that reason I shoot both Jpeg and RAW though I seldom use Jpegs. I can't comment on focus speed after the firmware upgrade as I did it pretty much straight away and didn't really compare. It focuses fast enough but there are certainly faster cameras out there.

Still love the GR, pining for a 40/50 equivalent GR as a sidekick.
