Hey
I am looking for some 12 by 9(8) backdrop recommendations.

There is plenty online to chose but I don't want to spend lot $$ but on the other hand don't want to go into cheap flimsy construction neither.

If you could recommend set I would really appreciate.

Nik,
I picked one up from amazon for $70 or so. Very sturdy.

Thanks a lot
Will do the same.

Now I will shop for some wrinkle less, light absorbing drops or paper.

Calumet Photo's heavy duty stand is very good. I used two until I sold my company, and now am going to get a new one for family photos. You can't to wrong with Calumet.

Does anyone make one with a smaller footprint? I'd like something that I could get closer to a wall. Maybe like the Autopoles, only cheaper?

Max, that's the one main issue with these stands, the wide footprint. Unfortunately, physics requires it. Autopoles are nice, but I've had to do a T&I in a 30' tall gym, which is out of the range for them.

They may be pricey for infrequent needs, but Manfrotto's 032BASEBSET is a pair of feet so you can set up autopoles with no ceiling.

Autopoles are great and worth the extra money.
