Aside from the mooning incident, my bee was actually quite a good subject. Much better than most of my insect subjects anyway:

Well, since I've started posting in some of the discussion topics, I should also start posting some images. This is some summer shooting in Utah earlier this summer.

Beautiful reflections from Zion, StephenS_CP; more, please

Meanwhile, some early-morning squabbling egrets and a dawn-lit red-wing, both from Crab Orchard NWR in southern Illinois, with 500 f/4L (I)...

I guess we should start thinking about an autumn thread soon. In the meantime, a couple of butterflies:

I especially like those last two butterflies, 15Bit; my 70-300 has hardly left the camera this summer as it makes for such a good butterfly lens. Enough magnification, yet enough stand-off space to keep them from spooking...

Here's a couple of late season (looking a little ragged) Giant Swallowtails, and a moth, all with 70-300L.

Jerry

Thanks Jerry. You're not too bad at this yourself .

I've been slowly refining my butterfly technique over repeated trips to the butterfly farm with my Bundle of Joy. I tend to favour the 70-200mm with tubes, for the same reasons as you like the 70-300. Balances well on a monopod too.

He's just going over what he's going to tell the hive when he gets back (bees communicate via dancing, for those you didn't know).

I've been admiring the images in this thread much more rather than posting, but Summer is winding down so I thought I'd better get a few modest contributions in before they become irrelevant.

I traveled light and packed only a Tamron 28-300mm and the 24mm TSE on a short trip to Hawaii (no big guns for BIF's). The Tamron is no L but performed quite admirably, its long zoom providing welcome versatility. Canon ought to manufacture it's own lightweight compact version of this lens.

Three views of Diamond Head, and a couple more:

Beautiful bird capture, Indyfab; Florida is becoming well-known for its exotics ...
Jools, you're right - it's only nine days 'til the Fall Equinox!

Here are a few more summer odds and ends from the recent week, with lens notations in the captions.
