p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · canon 16/35 mkI and 35 f2

Hi everybody.
I find this lens for about 650$..i'm tight on budget and i didn't consider the 17/40 cause i have the 5d old and the iso performance are not exeptional.
I was considering also the 35 f2 (waiting for the sigma 35/1.4) because used can be purchased for around 200$.
Are this two lens a good choice?
Thanks

The 16-35 mk l suffers from softness in the corners and overall softness at 2.8. If that's not a big deal to you then go for it.

My current lineup:
24/70 canon
50 1.8
16 fish

Incoming:
6d
135 f2

Ideas:
16 35 as a wide angle zoom (wide primes for canon are expensive)
35 1.4 sigma (f2 canon can be a substitute for a while)
50 1.4
85 1.8
135 2

mine 16-35 is pretty sharp (from factory). It will depend or dictate your style. Really nice for landscapes, some indoor tight spaces. exaggerated and underlined wide-angle distortions (Dance) Used a lot as a duplicating 24-70 (close enough) on 7D.

sometimes the 24 mm are not enough for my style...and also the 70mm are short.
for this reason i was considering the 16 35 and (later) the 85 1.8. (135 will arrive in couple of days)

I own and regularly use both of those lenses.

The 16-35 I is very reliable - sharp and focuses well. I'm not tempted in the least to upgrade to the II. Not sure about finding a clean one for $650 though, I think they sell for more like $900.

The 35 f/2 is optically awesome. Yes it has the noisy micro motor, but in situations where that doesn't matter its a great lens.

that's the reason of the post. i found a 16 35 quite under it's price tag. and i'm tempted...cause i know that could be useful for my shooting style.
about the 35 2..it's faster then the 50 1.8 on the af side?

The 35 f/2 is in a different league than the 50 f/1.8. The 35 is built way better and focuses faster and quite accurately too. The only downsides to the micro motor are noise and no manual override when in autofocus mode.
