p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Twin Ports - Big Ships [7]

Howdy,

Here are a few shots from the Twin Ports of Duluth/Superior, all taken from the Duluth, MN side.

1.) This is the Paul R. Tregurtha steaming into port before sunrise. The Paul R. Tregurtha is the largest ship on the Great Lakes measuring in at 1013 feet. The scene was incredibly surreal and truly looked other-worldly.

2.) The Paul R. Tregurtha approaches the canal to Duluth Harbor.

3.) Sunrise at the canal to the harbor. The Duluh North Pier Lighthouse is visible.

4.) The Kaministiqua (no slouch herself at 730 feet) leaves Duluth Harbor through the canal into a brilliant sunrise.

5.) As you can see in the previous shot I was shooting with my back to the sun as the ship left the canal and when I turned around I was stunned by the beauty of the light hitting the ship.

6.) The entire ship.

7.) Sailing off into the sunrise.

Bonus 8.) Duluth's iconic landmark, the Aeriel Lift Bridge at night.

Enjoy! I know I did while taking the photos.

Cheers,
TJ

An excellent set, TJ.
My favorite is #6 because the impact of the ship's size is so profound- plus the sunrise, colors, perspective and composition all work together brilliantly.
Good work.

Thanks, Charlie.

It's my favorite as well. This screams for a print made on metallic paper but my lab does not go big enough with metallic paper.
