i've got a D3, a D300, and a D7000, with a D700 on the way...i can tell you it's kind of a pain to mix the two when it comes to lens choices....once you get used to a certain set on DX, and make it work, then you gotta re-tool everything to get the same range/usefulness out of FX....
it would be a lot easier if i just shot ALL FX, but i still have some DX glass that i cant really let go.....and i have an underwater housing for a D7000, that make it so i can NEVER get rid of my D7000 and 10.5 fisheye.....so if i'm gonna keep the D7000 i might as well keep my 17-55 instead of picking up a 24-70 for my FX bodies.....
and i had an 11-16, which i debated on getting rid of, but ended up getting a 17-35mm instead, but that begs the question, why didn't i just sell the 17-55, and use the 17-35 on DX when i needed a normal range zoom, and still keep the 11-16...lol....it really sucks actually trying to weigh the options....
I will say that i have eyed the D7100 pretty hard.....i like that they added the "playback magnification on center button" feature, which i SORELY missed on my D7000......and the new AF system is a big selling point.....but from the comparisons i did, it's not a big enough leap from the D7000 in high iso performance to want to switch....even when you down-sample the D7100 files to 16mp.....
Case in point: Here is a D7000 and D7100 shot side by side....the D7100 has been down sampled to 16mp, both shots at iso 3200, viewed at 100%: D7100 on the right.
