Decided last night to finally give my 5d3 a low light workout. Previous experience under these conditions would have been with the 1ds2.
Was shooting an outdoor concert using the light from a concert video monitor. It was flickering all over the place with all sorts of color temps and intensities. Auto iso was swinging from 800 to 6400, outer points were locking beautifully. I legitimately needed the 1.2 just to get enough light. In post, i was doing crazy adjustments on tint and temp, but very little cropping or local adjustments needed. I was shooting for a fairly natural finish, and given the look of the raws, I was super happy with the results.
I guess I would have gotten maybe one fifth of the production with the 1ds2. Focus would have been hunting all night, and most shots would have been out of iso range. Sometimes, the gear makes all the difference.
1 still dusk
2 total night now
3. LR 50,000 iso and -150 tint, both at the limits
4 -89 tint!
5 Yes, we have hipsters in Nashville. This guy commented on the 1.2 bokeh.
Though it is kind of you to give credit to the gear, I give equal credit to you and on presentation!
That is beautiful work and I am sure a clincher for those considering that body and lens.
Its a brilliant lens, good to see it works well with the 5D3 as well. I have never had trouble getting the 85L to lock on with the center point of my 5D2 in garbage concert lighting, but I have been thinking about how nice it would be to be able to use the outer points occasionally...
Those are nice, I kind of did the same after a softball game the other day but with the 1DX and 300 MKII, amazing. Need to use my 85 1.2 more with the 5DMKIII
