can anyone tell me how to add the filename into the metadata using lightroom 3 please?
googled this and cannot locate anything obvious...very much appreicate any help

Sue, I don't know why you are having difficulty. When I look at files in the library module and display their exif data I see the file name at the top of the list. This is in the panel at the right hand side of the Lr window.
There is no metadata section in the develop module but you can switch on the film strip to display the name of the file currently being worked on.
Or are you trying to do something different? such as display the file name in the info overlay while a file is open, or include file name in the metadata filter info at the top of the Library module ? Either way, it is already in the actual metadata and you'll just need to tell Lr to show it.
