p.1 #1 · Amazon Basics Camera Bag: Great For Price, Have Concerns

I just bought this Amazon Basics camera backpack from Amazon. It was $30 and so far I'm very impressed.

It's very large, reasonably well padded, has lots of pockets, and the internal separations are infinitely configurable. However, I am concerned about the material it is lined with on the inside. The material is fabric-y - not smooth - almost like a faux suede or felt. I'm concerned that it might collect dust/dirt/hair, or worse, generate its own particulates.

Is this kind of material common in bags? My last bag had a smooth, silky lining material. I certainly wasn't concerned about it shedding any fabric or particles, and as long as I kept the bag clean I wasn't worried about collecting any. I really like the bag, but I haven't owned many and I don't know if it is common or uncommon and if I should be concerned about it. Thoughts?

For $30.00 what's to worry about. I have had many bags all made with different materials. I've never once even thought about what particles it may collect. I shoot in many different environments I can't once recall one bag collecting more particles, dust, dirt than another bag.

I waa worries that my $30 bag would ruin thousnads of dollars of equipment. My sensor and all my glass getting filled with dust and fibers just scared me.

Well... I wouldn't leave my camera sensor uncovered, nor the rear of my lenses uncapped, in any bag. If those two things are covered, there's little to worry about with fibers or dust.

If a little dust and fiber would ruin thousands of dollars worth of equipment during its normal course of use, we'd all be walking around with plastic bags on our gear all the time . I think it's not something to worry about - I have a couple bags that use a fibrous lining, and a couple bags that don't, and the fibers from the bags don't typically come flying off in a worrying amount. A soft lining (vs. the smooth nylon material you might have in other bags) is extremely common.

Okay, that makes me feel a lot better. Thanks!
