Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help with ways to diffuse the sun on those harsh sunny days. I like shooting on cloudy days but we get very few cloudy days here where I live. I tried shooting in the shade but it just don't seem to be as good as on cloudy days. Any tips would be helpful. T.I.A.
Same harsh sunlight in Oz, refracts off the reflective surfaces and doesn't look very good.
Though some creatures are spooked by it, I often shoot with them in my shadow and use fill flash. It depends on what you are shooting, how and with what.
As with Mark I will sometimes shade a subject with the camera or my body but many insects will not tolerate this and will fly off. I have tried a 1 stop diffuser/ reflector sheet but you get the same problem of spooking bugs plus you need some way of holding the diffuser.
I often do a quick "shade test" on a bug to see how it reacts. Sometimes if they are busy they are not too bothered.
Using a Cpl filter can also help in some situations.
Thanks guys, I appreciate you taking the time to help. I ordered a Westcott umbrella from B&H and I'm going to give it a try. Here's what I ordered if you want to tell me what you think. Thanks again.
