I like this approach better for macros (flowers, insects) than for birds. With macros, it seems as though the intent is frequently to show a common object in an uncommon way. I think it works particularly well for the fly, which does (as TK suggests) look otherworldly. Nice job!
I like the look of the fly, as if he has inherited a strange new world after some awful disaster.
