Okay Amazon and Newegg has the EOS-M with the 22mm lens for $400 so I had to get one. Just came in yesterday. Once I set it up, AV, single shot, auto iso etc. I'm really liking this.

Nice and small, built like a tank and that 22 is sharp wide open. Focus speed is fine

I wanted a small vacation camera and I think I may have found one.

I'll post more about it once I get some more miles on it.

Anyone else thinking of picking one up at this price?

Amazing price and much much cheaper than I could get one for through Canon staff purchase. If they had an optional EVF attachment for this I'd probably jump on it for that price and put up with the AF speed being mediocre.

Got in on similar deal a few weeks back to replace my old G9. Also picked up 18-55 EF-M lens plus EF converter new for half price.

AF is fine, about same level as G9 but way better image quality, fantastic HD video(better than my t2i because it can track AF when shooting video, works great with STM lenses). I also put on Magic Lantern to get focus peaking and video enhancements. So far, so good.

Sure, EVF would be nice but as is, I can't complain too much for $150 EOS-M body.

Okay had the eos-m for a day. Didn't have too much time to play with it but so far liking it for my needs. Just random still life stuff so far.

3 images. 100% crop at f2.2

I liked the one i had a loan off. In low light ( a pub) focus was terrible and the af assist lamp pissed people off and didnt help. Also unusable with a 400 on anything that moved.

But as a P&S replacement for a landscaper it was ideal.

If you stick to the 22mm pancake it is very close to a 35mm angle of view on FF. And there are many clip-on bright line finders available for 35mm. The least expensive is the Olympus VF-1 for $85. It's meant for their 17mm pancake but just happens to have the same angle of view as 35mm on FF:

If that seems too cheap, Leica rebranded it and tripled the price:

I bought one at more than that (with the adapter and flash) and really like it.

OK, I'll bite - how did you get an EOS M body for $150?

EOS-M + 22mm EF-M combo cost me $399. 22mm EF-M goes for about $200-250 new by itself. So... Not for exactly at $150 but you get the idea.

As much as I'm tempted to try the EOS M, I think it's worth waiting to see how they sort its successor.

I would have paid $400 for that combo, but now that I have the SL1 I am very happy with a miniature camera with real AF and the fact that it can take my lenses "straight".

That's also another compelling move by Canon. Not to highjack the thread, but you to you find the pentamirror viewfinder?

Smaller than the 1DX Quite honestly it does feel a bit cramped, just like everything (the buttons aren't where I'd expect them for my huge hands), but you get used to it. I don't need to use my reading glasses when I am using it, which is what I would have to do if I had to rely on live view, and the AF is about as good as it used to be on my 5D2, for better or worse, so I am very happy with my choice.

The only improvement I can think of at this time would be for them to put a full frame sensor in there. Then of course I guess the lens would have to get a bit bigger, too

Some improvements could make of the M a great success :

- electronic viewfinder
- fast and reactive AF
- better overall responsiveness
- triple the battery autonomy

Faster AF is coming at the end of this June with a firmware update

Even better; a firmware change which allows the touchscreen to be disabled when needed. Used with manual lenses it is extremely annoying when for instance the exposure compensation moves. Not much point in using a fast 50 or 80mm with -3 stops inadvertently dialled in.
