Joining in with Alan and RattyMouse for looks at Shanghai, China.
Their images are recent; mine were taken about 25 years ago.
Some changes noticeable- some similarities, also.
Plus our different ways of seeing and interpreting what we see.
Three shots to start:
1. No privately owned cars, but plenty of bicycles.
2. Only a select few (chosen by the government) had the chance to study music.
3. One couple- one child; that was the law. Raised by mom and dad and the dad's parents. Were they at all spoiled? Called the generation of "Little Emperors" by the Chinese. Does it show here?

Absolutely FABULOUS images there Charlie. Love 'em totally. The first one makes me wish I knew where that was so I could go there today and make a similar image, 25 years later. It would be great to see. I was thinking, were you on the east or west side of the river....but then realized that there was no Shanghai east of the river 25 years ago!!!

The portrait of the child and family is just breathtaking.

Thanks Ratty, Alan and Douglas.
1st shot: starting at the Bund, I walked down the main shopping street several blocks (it's the street on the upper right in the pic). At one of the main intersections I walked along the elevated sidewalk to get this perspective.
That's the child and grandpa. The other man is just an onlooker.

25 years ago! i would say it looks like 50 to me. They develop real fast.
