Just a few from the yard. If I don't get my 500 and TC back soon I think I'll go stir crazy

Not seeing as many ruby throats as before. They must be moving on northward .

Lot's of cowbirds, not something I am happy to see.

As always your nits, crits, comments and suggestions are most appreciated.

Hope you enjoy.

Birdie

Female Ruby Throat

Cardinal

Ruby Throat Not sure if young male or female

Brown Headed Cowbird Male (hate to see these in my yard )

Looks to me like you have a lot going Birdie! Be happy for that

1 is a nice sharp shot, I think it could benefit from a bit of a head turn towards the camera and without the background distraction mid bird
2
3 It's nice the whole bird is nicely focused There is something disturbing about the eye, might be some wing blur or something else
4 another really strong shot giving the Card a run for its money!

Nice work, I hope you get you 5hun back soon!!!

#1 file looks odd to me, not your typical sharpness, was it a large crop?
#2 that is a dandy of a Card!
#3 difficult angle and likely the wing movement took contrast away from the eye but cool none the less!
#4 crop could be altered IMO, a little less area to the left of the bird perhaps. I don't care for the branches coming out from the back of the head, would be a good one to practice clone on My favorite file of the bunch, detail and color and sharpness is all good to me
Your gear has been gone too long, what's up with that

Birdie:

I would like to add an additional suggestion. The images (color) appear a tad flat on my monitor. Not your fault, atmospheric/lighting conditions.

It happens to all of us. I applied some dark eye dropper curves taken from under the wings of the CB.

What do you think?

Ted

Thank you Tim . Appreciate your details comments. Not sure what happened with the first one. It sure looks sharper on the raw file. I really must have screwed something up and I wasn't even drinking when I did these !

Karl, thank you for this . I really need to go back to the drawing board on a couple of these ! Really need to rethink how I process some of the D800 files with contrast and sharpening.
The lens showed up late this afternoon, YAHOO! Showed B1 ( adj . focus motor, adj . VR) Got to get out and test it tomorrow.

That's a pretty nice yard, Birdie! Really impressive to get so close without your usual gear. (Were these with a 70-200?)

Two comments on comments:

1) I agree with Karl that 1 seems to lack a bit of sharpness, but there are several that don't seem quite as crisp as some of your other shots...I wonder if you can blame it on equipment?

2) I also thought the colors and contrast looked a tiny bit underdone, but I also think it's easy to overdo it (which I do myself all too often). The cowbird is a nice example; I would love to see something in between the original image and Ted's suggestion. There's a delicate nature to the image you posted, and I think you should try and preserve that delicacy!
