Taken a few minutes apart from the other shot I uploaded here a week or two ago. This is Mt. Rainier from Bench Lake. I have been here like 3 times now to shoot, and not one person here - although many cars at the trail head.

Not that I don't mind having a whole place to myself. I am embarking on a trip into the Eagle Cap WIlderness or Central Oregon next month with my wife (she has never backpacked ). I am kind of hoping to hit up Eagle Cap, but depends on snow levels.

Sorry for the off-topic "rant". My point is that it pays to put in the effort to get to some of the less known places, because you can come away with something semi original.

The colors were really like this. The fog rolled in from Stevens Pass and engulfed Rainier for minutes at a time, and then just as quickly, rolled out.

Super shot Dustin, and I like it a LOT more then the first one. There is just less wasted space in this composition. Maybe its just me, but I feel like it is leaning a bit to the right?

It could be. I am horrible with horizons. But it could be because the lake is like a triangle. I used the grid in PS to aid me

What a great sky!! Aside from the tilt suggestion, I'd try to bring out the highlights a bit to add some contrast. There is great potential here with that sky and colors, as well as the snow, to really make this pop.

I love both versions Dustin. You captured an amazing scene. The clouds and reflection resemble wings.

If I was pressed to choose one, I would go with the portrait orientation version. It seems better balanced to me.

Very nice shot, Dustin. I like the "wing" of light created by the cloud and the low clouds in the mid-ground between the lake and Rainier.

Very nice (as usual). Wonderful light. My wife and I took our first backpacking trip together to Eagle Cap and had a great time. We are hoping to head back there with our son sometime this summer too. Maybe we will see you there

Thanks everyone! I thought about adding contrast, but I thought it might be too dark...

Looks the same to me, needs to be straightened a little I think. Other than that the shot is awesome. Will have to check out bench lake when I'm in the area in August.

Hey Dustin,

Boy... just love this shot. Whenever I do get back up to Rainier, I will be sure to check out Bench Lake, it looks cool. Nice work on this one, and for being patient with the conditions.

That's great that your wife is going to go with you backpacking. That will be great for you.

Is your horizon line crooked, dropping on the right side or is it the near shore on the right that gives that impression?
