The thread seems to be about the Summicrons.

In my experience, the early, outmoded, collapsible S.50\2 worked well with PanatomicX and FP3 while TriX and suchlike did not even begin to stretch its qualities. I still use the latest versions of M&R s 50\2 and find them entirely adequate.

As for the 100 AE, the number of cams does not matter, unless you are using an R camera with film. There might be subtle improvements in coatings over the years, otherwise, no change that is discernible by Leitz outsiders. Same optical design, same mechanics. Pleasant to use.

Yah, I kinda hijacked my own thread. I started thinking I wanted to go with crons, and then realized later that I really liked the Elmarits. I will be using them on other dslr's like nikon, canon, etc.

Rich, do you know when they went to the new focus design? Year or serial #?

Quick question, are all the Elmarit R APO 100mm 3 cam or ROM? Meaning, none of them are 2 cam or less right?

No 2-cam or 1-cam.

You should get a copy of Laney's Leica guide. Really helps. Have the older 1992 version if you want me to look up older stuff.

On one hand anything Leica should be good. On the other I shot with an R 50/2 and 35/2.8 some at one point, if I remember right, and wasn't that impressed. Also in terms of sharpness the old mp tests R 50/1.4 didn't list that high of figures. My old screw 35/3.5 Summaron is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used, although it suffers from flare.

You might look at Ken Rockwells site, he tests some Leica.
