Ordered a D800 from Amazon before I left for Thailand (1 month ago). I'd assume it's fairly new off the assembly line. Installed the new firmware as soon as it arrived (it says: A1.01—B1.02—L1.006). It doesn't appear to have the left AF or green tint screen issues, however, it locks/freezes up once in awhile. It's happened about a dozen times, or once every other day or less.
It happens after I take a photo, and press either the info or playback buttons (I think; it's hard to tell since by the time I notice it, I've forgotten what button I pressed), but I've also had it happen at least twice just after turning the camera on. When it freezes, the screen won't turn on, it won't focus, nothing... except the little green memory card LED stays solid (left it for 30 minutes, twice), even if I switch the camera off. The only way to reset it is to remove and reinsert the battery. I reformat the SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card in the camera after every import.
Anyone else have this problem? I Googled it, and it looks like it was a problem with both the D800 and D4 right after launch, but nothing posted about this problem recently.
Also, is it just me, or does the screen have quite the turn on lag after pressing the info or playback buttons? I came from a D7000; it's at home, so I haven't been able to compare, but it seems like the D800 takes about 2 to 3 times longer, sometimes longer than others. My friend's D3200's screen comes on a lot faster.

"Happens after taking a photo...also had it happen just after turning the camera on...when it freezes, the screen won't turn on, it won't focus, nothing... except the little green memory card LED stays solid..."
Seems to me a communication problem between the camera and memory card.
1) Try to format a new and different memory card to see if the problem still persist.
2) Clean the SD card contacts as well as the SD card contacts in the camera with a SD card cleaner that looks like a SD card that you insert into the camera.

I've had the issue with two D800's from time to time, with a variety of SD and CF cards. I was hoping the last firmware update would fix it but that didn't happen.
Based on my experience it's not a communications problem and I don't think your suggestion will help. The problem is resolved temporarily by removing and re-inserting the battery and not by cleaning the contacts.
Cleaning the memory card contacts shouldn't be necessary unless they're extremely soiled. By design, each time you slide the card in or out of it's socket the contact points are "scraped", removing any residual oxidation.
Thanks for the replies... I have another, slower SanDisk card with me that I can use. If I remember right, it did this with the other card... Got the camera of couple days before the faster memory card; used the other SD card during that time and I'm sure it happend then, too.
To me, it seems more like a firmware problem, especially since the rear display lags turning on sometimes, which is when it decides to freeze up. It's just hard to remember what buttons I pressed right before it freezes up because my mind's on what I'm shooting and the settings, not the buttons to press.
This happens to mine every once in a while, but only freezes up for 10 seconds or so while the green light is on. Have not figure out what it's doing because it has not reached the point where it's bothering me enough.

Mine has done this a few times. Like John, it doesn't bother me.
It happened on my D3X only after the recent firmware update and while I was in the Philippines where there's no internet on most parts, so I can't just reload the firmware. The issue only happens on Kingston cards, Sandisk is fine. Loading cards and turning on the camera takes a few seconds while the Lexars and Sandisks are almost immediate. Shooting at continuous 5fps at 12bit made it hang...so I lost quite a few frames on action shots. I'm currently finding a way to check if these lost raw shots are still on my Kingston card and will try to recover it... I also suspect the new firmware has affected the af and the af display lights on the viewfinder. Reloading the firmware resolved this. Maybe a new firmware from Nikon is due to resolve all these issues...
