I would suggest considering some MFA as it appears your first two shots are slightly front focused.
Look at the sharpness of the ground in each relative to the subject.

thanks for you suggestion. I will recheck it. keep in mind, in both sots, I am pointing the camera down, with the bird at about a 30 degrees, and with the lizard at 45 degrees. the point of focus for the lizard is his head. so the plane of focus is actually is oblique, and closer to me on the grand, further as I move higher.
but I will double check.
